The racing centre was established in 1984, this modern complex is situated some 12km from Pietermaritzburg and 68kim from Durban, Ashburton is 680m above sea level. The centre can accommodate 427 horses in barn type stables and has accommodation for resident grooms. A clubhouse and restaurant serves breakfast seven days a week, the training facilities comprise of a grass track - 2100m oval shaped with banked turns and sand tracks - 1800m light sand & 500m heavy sand - 350m trotting track.
